We know that it has been a while since we updated our community with what is going on with us, but a lot has been happening. Our Executive Director, Sean Thom, has been dealing with some health issues dating back to last fall. These issues have all but incapacitated him at times and have forced him to shift his focus to his family and his health. As a result, our work has been limited and we have been progressing as best as we can. He is still dealing with some issues, but is feeling better lately and the prognosis is looking good.
Even with everything going on, we have still been moving forward with our work and mission and we have a ton of updates and information for you! Please check everything out and let us know if you have any questions, thoughts, suggestions, or anything else. We appreciate each and every one of you!
- We parted ways with Wildflower Vegan Cafe back in December. This was not an easy decision for us, but things weren’t working as we envisioned and our organization made the tough decision to separate. Wildflower does a lot of great things and we continue to urge our community to support their business and work!
- With the vacancy in our commercial kitchen, we needed to find a new partner that shares our vision of community building to move forward with. We had a lot of conversations, but ultimately decided to partner with Chef Shakeem Brown. He is the head chef for Touch of Tom’s Seafood and is known throughout our area for his culinary talents, incredible event catering, and community service. He has also partnered with Chef Erinn Moore, of KHEMistry Catering, to share the commercial kitchen space for all their culinary magic. They have both been in our space since February and we are very excited to work with both of them. Please make sure you check them out and like and follow them on social media! Also, stay tuned for some upcoming fine dining opportunities at Reese’s House coming this summer!
- We sent an email out last week about an opportunity we have to feed breakfast and lunch to youth in our area throughout the summer. We are still looking for volunteers, so if you have some free time over the next few months please consider helping us out. Volunteers can sign up to help for one meal per day for the week or for many different sessions. The amount of kids we serve will depend on the number of volunteers we have to assist. - Speaking of summer, we all know what happens at the end of the summer! That’s right, our Back to School Shoe Drive returns and we are thrilled to bring this support program back for the 7th year! We don’t want to rush summer, but we are beginning our preparation to make sure we can purchase shoes for our youth. We have distributed over 1,000 pairs of shoes over the years and hope to keep building on that. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to help, just click here!
- Reese’s House is open for community use! If you run an organization that would like to use our space for an event or community program, we can help! If you’re looking for a beautiful location to hold a party, celebration, or other gathering, we can also help! Just click here to fill out our form and we will be in touch! You won’t find many spaces as beautiful as Reese’s House in Cumberland County, so make your reservation today.
